Comedy Zone-Jacksonville's stage set for Don 'D.C.' Curry

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Don “D.C.” Curry will be performing five comedy routines at Comedy Zone-Jacksonville, from Sept. 15 through Sept. 17. He will begin with one solo show, on Sept. 15. He will follow with the two shows back-to-back, on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17. He is an actor, award winning stand-up comedian, producer, social commentator and writer.
Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Curry was born on Sept. 7, 1961. He has appeared on the following television programs: “Black Jesus”, “Comedy Central Presents”, “Comics Unleashed”, “Comics Unleashed: Hot Chocolate”, “Comicview” on Black Entertainment Television (BET), “Def Comedy Jam” on Home Box Office (HBO), “Everybody Hates Chris”, “Grace Under Fire” American Broadcasting Company (ABC), Martin Lawrence’s “1st Amendment Stand Up” on Starz, “One Mic Stand” on BET, “The Boondocks”, “The Chris Rock Show”, “The Mo’Nique Show”, “The Roseanne Show”, “The Steve Harvey Show”, “The Tracy Morgan Show”, “Way Black When: Primetime” and “Weekends at the DL”.
For a segment of Martin Lawrence’s “1st Amendment Stand Up”, “Def Comedy Jam” and Curry’s Comedy Central Presents special—he was credited as a writer.
Film credits for Curry consisted of: “Blackbelt II”, “Blunts & Stunts: Class of ‘94”, “Friday After Next”, “Funny Business”, “Next Friday”, “She Wins”, “Spyder”, “Tears of A Clown”, “Three Sickxty” and “Two Degrees”. He was also the executive producer of “Two Degrees”. He produced his DVD, cable television and compact disc, “DON ‘DC’ Curry-Nervous Breakdown Live”, as well.
Curry has made appearances on documentaries including: “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the White House” (2013), “Phunny Business: “A Black Comedy” (2011) and “Masters of the Martial Arts Presented by Wesley Snipes” (1998) on TNT.
On stage, Curry has been part of two productions. They include “You Don’t Tell, I Won’t Tell” (2009), “Casino” and “You Got Me Bent and Twisted”.
Many awards and accolades were presented to Curry. They include: “Comedian of the Year” at the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition in 1995, BET’s Comedian of the Year in 1996, InSpired Artist Award in 2011 and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” presented by the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition in 2-2011.
Currently—Curry is developing his own comedy-based reality show, “No Chit”. The synopsis of the series details the lives of comedians on the “Chitlin Circuit”. He continues with his recurring role on Aaron McGruder’s sitcom, “Black Jesus”. Annually—he tours comedy clubs, comedy festivals, theaters and television appearances.
