LOS ANGELES – Tehran’s inspiration to perform stand-up comedy stemmed from watching Dave Chappelle’ s comedy special, “Dave Chapelle: Killin’ Them Softly”. It was the first one he watched, felt Chappelle was brilliant and it was his overall favorite comedy special. As he watched the audience laughing along with the jokes—Tehran noticed each set up and punchline, thought them over and wondered if they had a deeper meaning. He cited his other favorite comedy specials were by: Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Bill Burr and Louis C.K.
Tehran looked back at the first time he performed stand-up comedy and stated he did not feel nervous. He had no expectations to live up to and he had no bar to reach. He knew he was a funny person before he approached the stage; gave it all he had and he exceeded his own expectations. As an established comedian, he has become nervous before every show. The reason being was he has set a bar to reach every time. He hoped he exceeded his goal, brought something meaningful and positive with each performance. His goals were to have the audience laugh, learn, get along with each other and have made the world a better place—even if it was for 30 minutes.
If Tehran could go on tour with comedians, he chose: Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K. and Bill Burr. He mentioned he could learn a lot from each and would love to perform in front of their large fan bases. In the tradition of a comedy roast, he had the option to pick from comedians past and present. He chose the following: Richard Pryor, Jamie Foxx, Jeff Ross, Natasha Legerro, Pete Davidson and Chris Redd.
“Good Times” was Tehran’s favorite sitcom, due to the ability to bring humor to everyday situations. The others which helped shape his upbringing included: “Saved by the Bell”, “The Cosby Show” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. His favorite comedy films were “Superbad”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, “The Princess Bride” and “Friday”.
Other forms of comedy Tehran plans to try are: sketch, improv and acting. Over the next five years—he hopes to continue to work hard, get better, take on every “dare to be great” opportunity which presents itself, have a higher power and destiny decide which path to take.
